Narcissistic Abuse Survivor Group
"You are enough just as you are." — Brené Brown
Welcome to our Narcissistic Abuse Survivor Group! We will meet every Wednesday at 5 PM for 8 weeks starting in October 2024 to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have experienced narcissistic abuse.
This group is designed to provide a space for sharing experiences, gaining validation, and learning coping strategies. During our sessions, we will focus on understanding the dynamics of narcissistic relationships, setting boundaries, and fostering self-empowerment. We encourage open dialogue while maintaining strict confidentiality to ensure everyone feels secure in sharing their journey.
First Group will meet in October, 2024

Narcissism
Narcissism, particularly when rooted in early trauma, can have profound pathological effects on both the narcissist and their victims. The condition is characterized by a grandiose self-image, a lack of empathy, and a deep need for admiration, often stemming from early childhood experiences where emotional needs were unmet. Otto Kernberg and Heinz Kohut, renowned psychoanalysts, have extensively studied the development of narcissistic traits, emphasizing the impact of early relational trauma on the formation of narcissistic pathology.
For survivors of narcissistic abuse, the trauma can manifest as complex emotional and psychological challenges. These individuals often experience symptoms akin to complex trauma, including depression, anxiety, and difficulties with emotional regulation. The constant exposure to narcissistic manipulation and control can lead to a distorted self-image and a pervasive sense of helplessness. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk highlights how early trauma can shape the brain to remain hyper-alert to danger, affecting emotional responses and leading to chronic stress and fear.
Recovery for survivors involves addressing these deep-seated wounds, often requiring professional intervention and a supportive community. Therapeutic approaches focus on rebuilding a sense of self-worth, establishing healthy boundaries, and
processing the trauma to disrupt dysfunctional patterns. As survivors work through their experiences, they can reclaim their narrative and foster resilience, ultimately finding empowerment and liberation from their past.

Rising from the Shadows
In the depths of a storm, I found my way,
Through whispers of doubt and skies of gray.
A heart once shattered, now begins to mend,
As I gather strength from the love of a friend.
The chains of deceit, once binding tight,
Now fall away in the morning light.
For I am more than the scars I bear,
A soul reborn, beyond despair.
With every step, I reclaim my power,
Blooming anew like a resilient flower.
The echoes of pain may linger still,
Yet I rise, with an iron will.
No longer defined by the past's cruel game,
I stand tall, embracing my name.
A survivor's spirit, fierce and bright,
Guiding me forward, into the light.
In the mirror, I see a warrior's face,
A testament to strength, to love, to grace.
For in the ashes of what once was,
I find my freedom, my cause, my because.
